To Da Front with Mitch – 5/8/14

To Da Front – 5/8/14

Three races this week for the team, twice at the Bowl and we even floated across the sound on Sunday for an enduro event.  All events had come with mixed results.

(Wed. X-Car to be posted early in the week)

Saturday at Waterford was different to say the least.  Still trying to get a setup nailed, trying all sorts of different things, we couldn’t go far with our car.  Some contact in the heat race and a calm confrontation apparently has swirled into rumors of rage and violence.  But it is what it is.  We stunk out in the heat, and stunk out in the feature.  With 4 cars on the lead lap… barely… we finished 9th.  Poor display.

That night we loaded up the enduro and snuck in a few hours of sleep before hopping on the 7AM ferry to Long Island.  In what had to have been one of the more peaceful rides to an out of state race track, it was far from a stressful event.  We showed up to a windy but warm event surrounded by some solid local friends we have there, as well as some new faces.  The enduro car of choice for us was our parts car, a Saturn with half the motor of our X-Car, and to their rules had absolutely no camber in any wheel.  Gearing was a little off but it wasn’t all that embarrassing out there.  We made about 10 laps before we hit some debris and blew out a tire.  Pulled off around lap 16 I think was the verdict.  Nonetheless, we had a ton of fun down there and hope to go back later on this year when our schedule allows.

Wednesday night after doing some more major setup change on the car, it was obvious it had paid off.  Now sure, we may have almost been lapped again, but the car was noticeably faster right out the gate. We started the feature on the outside pole and after literally running the tires off the car, we had led a couple laps, and cross the line 6th.

Up next:  Slow week! We’re back at Waterford Speedbowl next Wednesday night on 5/14
