It was great to see another fine crowd come out to the Speedbowl Saturday night to witness the Mr. Rooter 161 for the NWMT and it was a wild race to the checkered flag. All the divisions put on a good show with Rob Janovic Jr. putting the quik # 51 to the point and not looking back as he picked up his first SK win of 2013.Not so fortunate were Kyle James and Nichole Morgillo as they wound up in the front-stretch wall after contact and both were done for the night. Ed Puleo raced to the runner up spot and was quick all night. “Hot Rod” Todd Ceravolo , Joey Gada in the fast # 6 and the # 36 of New York speedster Craig Lutz rounded out your top five. The street stocks were racing hard and winning the battle was Norm Root Jr. as he too picked up his first win of the year over a nice field of cars and a very fast Joe Arena. Late Model racing is always a battle at Waterford and Keith Rocco, in what may be the fastest LM in southern New England, won with a late race pass taking the lead from runner up David Farrington Jr. in the # 23 who comes all the way down from Maine where he competes at the Beach Ridge Motor Speedway. Mini stocks put down another good race and this time Bill Leonard picked up the win over Ken Cassidy Jr. A very hard hit for both Garrett Denton and Jeff Lee going into turn two left both cars a mess. Cograts to Ryan Preece and a good run for Doug Coby as he finished second in the 161 lap NWMT race. The pit crews did a great job getting the drivers in and out for service and the Nascar officials kept a close eye on all the action and made sure all was done safely. I would like to see the tour back more often, however we have just the one NWMT event yearly and boy is it a good one. The track makes for some real close racing and I think the drivers did a good job putting on a show for the fans. Next week they race at Riverhead.VMRS tour modifieds will be back at the Speedbowl on the 10th of August for the annual Wings n Wheels show. Tune into the next overdrive radio show on Saturday @ 1 PM…John Gates.
