2013 HERE WE GO…
The 2013 New England stock car racing season begins this weekend April 5th-6th and 7th at the Waterford Speedbowl with Friday practice rounds and a 13 division show Saturday and Sunday. Practice last weekend saw over 125 cars in the pit area testing out the quick 3/8ths mile paved oval which should add up to a great field of cars opening day. All qualifying takes place Saturday starting at 3 p.m. with seven feature races after that. Day two is Sunday with the big pit party at 9:30 a.m. and feature racing just after noon. It is a two day admission charge so if you are into racing check out all the action that takes place on Saturday as well as Sunday. Many times the Saturday show is just as good as Sunday so you do not want to miss all the opening day divisions .Keith Rocco and company will be in action on Saturday with his fast NEMA light machine as that division goes 25 main event laps. NEMA has one of the best support divisions in racing with a nice field of cars expected. The NETS truck series is in town with a new attitude and some new drivers and new trucks that will be racing in a 25 lap feature Saturday as well. How about the popular SKLite’s racing Saturday also in a 25 lap main event with last year’s point battle going right down to the wire it will be a fun division to watch in 2013. The SKLites are just like a full blown SK modified with a crate or limited motor to help teams save costs. The division has grown into some really good cars and stars. All the wild and wacky classes as well as INEX divisions will race main events Saturday too so like I said check it out…Sunday will see the SK modifieds run a 63 lap season opener along with the VMRS going 100 ground pounding laps, Late Model teams will race for 50 laps and you never know who may show up as some of the top ACT teams always seem to invade the Bowl for the Blast Off. Also the NEMA “winged” Midgets go 25 fast and furious laps .Street and Mini Stock divisions make up a great Sunday afternoon show Then after all that we regroup for next Saturday nights first regular show….this should be a great year at the Speedbowl with great racing action every time the gates open. Overdrive radio goes prime time as well Saturdays at 3PM on 94.9 news now. JohnGates.
